Venue Information

The Historic Eureka School was built in 1921 for Black students just off Mobile St. and served as the high school (and eventually as a junior high and elementary school) until it closed in 1987. In the late 1990s, a local alumni group (EURO —  Eureka-Rowan) funded an adaptive reuse plan for the building that led to the Hattiesburg  Convention Commission (HCC), under the leadership of Aubrey Lucas, taking ownership of the building from the school district.

Renovations  were ongoing from 2006 to 2018, including those needed after the building was hit by the 2013 tornado. Its ultimate purpose is to serve as Hattiesburg’s African American History Museum.
